Two for One
Special
On a small hobby farm in Middle Tennessee, two days ago, there was an unexpected surprise! The Ewe that I bought early last year had her first lambing! She picked a brutally cold morning to drop those babies out into this hobby farm.
If you have not meet Éclair you can simply look her up on previous trisonschickery blogs. She is a beautiful mix of colors. Thus it was interesting what these two baby ewes looked like!
I just so happened to name them: Sugar and Spice (mom says that’s what girls are made of!?) Each one named liked they are colored! Spice is all one color, a mixture of rust and brown. Sugar is white headed, and the rest of her body looks like brown sugar! Spice was the larger of the two. Sugar was the runt. They both are so so so cute!
Not an uncommon happening on first births, Éclair accepted Spice and rejected Sugar. The one that was rejected, Sugar cried & cried. I think that she would have died if my older brother had not found her, while looking for our dog. We knew something was wrong and we knew we needed to do something. BUT WHAT?????........we did not have a clue!!
After much banter, we decided to give ole dad a call at work. He said to try to reintroduce the poor, week, unloved lamb. But the mother kicked and butted her carelessly. Sadly we realized that we were indeed going to have to raise her if she was going to live. So we went to the store to get some powdered milk. We found an old bottle and tried to feed her. At first she did not eat well. It was a troublesome attempt to say the least. But soon she took to it. And she is up following me around like a shadow. Even though I am just an ole farm boy, she thinks I am her mother. I must say she is pretty special to me!
