The Lie of SIN
I normally post to the Truth and Trials blog and leave this one for family farm activities. But I felt impressed to share this message here.
Sin is something all of us struggle with. Those that are truly converted, born again, trusting in the righteousness of Christ alone still struggle. The lost may struggle but are in slavery. Unable to break loose from the root of a depraved, wicked heart. The believer still has the old heart but we also have a completely new nature, free to serve God apart from the bondage of sin. So let this be a warning to both the saved and the lost. Our context is in the Garden of Eden. Satan encouraged Eve to exercise her freewill even though against the command of God.
Genesis 3:1-7 Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden '?" 2 The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'" 4 The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die! 5 "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.
SIN is based on a lie. The LIE of SIN:
1. That the exercise of man's freewill is life when it is death.
2. That the exercise of man's freewill is liberty when it is bondage.
3. That the exercise of man's freewill is the pursuit of happiness when it is really futility.
That is the LIE. To exercise your freewill apart from God. This will only throw you head long into a freefall of SIN.
The only hope for those in the freefall of SIN is the Lord's sovereign GRACE. To the LOST cry out to God for His mercy, it is your only hope.
The LIE is deadly and only brings captivity. For the believer the lie is grievous, to be in unrighteousness. It will take you father from God than you ever thought it could and keep you longer. It is deadly, it is gripping, and it doesn't retreat or call a truce.
Success against SIN doesn't come from trying harder not to sin, BUT rather it comes from enjoying the goodness of God more than these earthly vain desires. Find your joy and pleasure in the presence of God.
Remember satan is the father of lies. This world and its pleasures are only a continuation of his lies.
John 8:43-45 43 "Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. 44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 "But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.
May the Lord lead and guide each one as we seek to serve Him and Him alone.
